MaruMinyaM
MaruMinyaM (マルミーニャM) is a cute Japanese pixel font created using 12 by 12 grid. Comparing to the sibling font Maruminya, MaruminyaM is even more rounded and cute, giving a handwriting style feel to it especially for the hiragana and katakana characters. The font looks squarish as it was constructed with 12 by 12 pixel grid, hence the full name of the font is x12y12MaruMinyaM. I assume the “M” variant means Maru, which is double the “maru-ness” or roundness to the already rounded look pixel font. Bear in mind that because of the roundedness, some characters might not be as easy to be recognised, for example the character “か”, it deviated a little bit much from the usual form in my opinion.
MaruMinyaM comes with the Japanese hiragana and katakana characters, with Chinese kanji characters fully supported up to JIS Level 2. Not only that, it also supports standard Latin scripts in both 1-byte or 2-byte form, and gamepad symbols. This font looks great without the anti-aliasing rendering and it will look the crispiest on 12px-based scaling, eg. 12px, 24px 36px and so on. This font and it is suitable for projects that needed the bitmap, retro gaming look. You can download the font for free for any of personal and commercial projects.
