Tsukuhou Shogo Mincho

Tsukuhou Shogo Mincho (築豊初号明朝) is a vintage looking free Japanese font suitable for big displays and heading titles. The hiragana and katakana characters are fluidic resembling ink writing with thick brush, and it’s giving the old signboard vibes from the traditional Japan shops from the Showa period, where you may still find them in old shop houses or markets like Tsukiji fish market.

This font works great for designs that needed to bring out the old school, nostalgic theme. It comes with the usual Japanese characters, and the rest of the characters like the kanji are supplemented by another open-source font called Genryu Mincho, which I will introduce this font in the future. Since this font is derived from an open-sourced font, hence this font will also be open-source, therefore you can use it freely for any projects including commercial projects.

To download, visit the page above, scroll down and look for the download button highlighted in the image below. You’ll need to have a Pixiv account to download. Once downloaded, extract the zip and you will find the font in OTF and TTF format. Once installed, you may find this font under the name “Tsukuhou Shogo Mincho” in the font selection panel.
