JK Maru Gothic (JK丸ゴシック) is a cute gothic style Japanese font that is free to download. It was the rounded version of the original JK Gothic from the same author. Basically she took the original letters and turn sharp edges to rounded edges, to give it a softer feel. JK is the initial of “Joshi Kousei”, which means female high school student. The hiragana and katakana character designs are supposed to bring out the cute, young and girlie teenage high school student vibe, and I think the font did express such feelings.

Other than aforementioned characters which are originally designed, the other characters are supplemented by M+ Fonts, with kanji characters supporting up to 5,700+ characters (Full JIS Level 1 and 80% Level 2 and some Level 3). It’s free to download and be used on personal and commercial projects.
