Genryu Mincho font (源流明體) is a free serif font that comes with 7 font weights. It is a font family that was published based on modification of the ever popular Source Han Serif. Compared with Source Han Serif, Genryu’s kanji characters are ever so slightly slimmer, and the start and the end of the horizontal and vertical strokes are being made thicker with more emphasis, in which making the font more classy and more humane.

Genryu Mincho comes with 7 weights, from Extra Light to Heavy. This font is great as font for typing word documents, and also for text heavy designs that expresses classiness, elegance, composure and trust. It comes with the complete Japanese kana characters and all the characters from the Source Han Serif. Since this font is modified from an open-source font, Genryu Mincho font family is also free under SIL Open Font License, hence you are free to use for commercial projects.

To download, visit the page above to visit the Github page. Then click on the “Code” dropdown button to reveal a popover. Then click on the “Download ZIP” to download the whole package. Bear in mind that, the ZIP file was a whopping 364MB in size as it includes many versions of the font, including OTF and TTF format. The font preview is using GenryuMin2PJP font version. After installation, the font is selectable under the name “GenryuMin2 [version]”
