Enka Dot Mincho 24

Preview of Enka Dot Mincho 24, a pixel style free Japanese font

Enka Dot Mincho 24 (縁架ドット明朝24) is a free 24-dot pixel mincho font hand-crafted by Enthiesia (エンゼシア), the same independent Japanese font designer behind Enka Dot Gothic 24. This time, the glyph designs are based on Noto Serif, redrawn pixel by pixel at 24-dot resolution to deliver that classic, characterful bitmap mincho look. The seriffed strokes of the mincho style give this pixel font a slightly more traditional and literary feel compared to its gothic sibling, while retaining that retro digital charm. Use it to evoke old-school Japanese digital displays, add a nostalgic flavour to your game UI, or recreate the kind of text you might find on vintage electronic signage. Note that vertical writing is not supported.

Enka Dot Mincho 24 comes with the common Japanese characters, including full kyōiku kanji characters support, totaling about 1,082 kanji characters as of time of writing. Not fantastic in terms of kanji character support, but it should cover most basic uses. It is free to download and be used on commercial projects, as it was released under SIL Open Font License.
