Wataame
Wataame (わたあめ) is a free Japanese font that is rich in texture, built as a derivative of Noto Sans JP Regular. The name means “cotton candy” in Japanese, and the designer describes the concept behind it simply as “ふわふわ感”, a soft, fluffy feel, which comes through in the typeface’s gently rounded character shapes.
The font is part of a broader project exploring what can be done creatively with the Noto font family as a base, reworking a familiar, highly legible gothic into something with a bit more personality while keeping its readability intact. Since the font is designed based on the Noto Sans, this font also released under the same SIL Open Font License, which means you can download the font for free and be used on commercial projects.
